Heading our that way at the end of this week to run the Copper Mountain 1/2 and hang out with the family in Breckenridge for the following week.  Does anyone know where I might be able to find, at least, a 25-yard pool to swim in?  Not opposed to OWS if something is available there (but by the looks of the overnight lows, its gonna be chilly & I don't have room for a wetsuit).  Also, we plan on renting bikes & I see a ton of trails.  Any "must dos" for the family?  TIA!!!

Breckenridge Rec Center: http://www.townofbreckenridge.com/index.aspx?page=349

There's also a rec center in Silverthorne (at I-70 essentially): http://www.silverthorne.org/recreation/rec_center.html

I'm pretty sure there is no OWS, it's too cold!

have fun!

Thanks so much for the quick reply!!!!!!  I'll have to keep my OWS to the hot tub at the condo Laughing

The Rec Center there in Breckenridge looks awesome.  If we get a rainy day or two, the kids can have something to do too, while I swim.

Biking really depends on the bikes and the family

For a scenic but not too tough mtn bike ride, try the Bakers Tank Trail:
http://www.summitdaily.com/article/20060606/RECREATION04/50601029

The uphill portion on the road feels almost flat, the downhill single track part is fun but not very technical.

For more MTB, download the loop maps from here:
http://www.warriorscycling.com/events/breck.php

And just pick parts. I haven't done all of them but the parts I've done were fun - good workouts with fun rideable single track (ie - no big drop offs or nasty uphill rock gardens).

For a road ride, the bike paths are very nice and you can get some good climbs in. Or head over to Keystone and go up Montezuma road for a short but nice climb. You'll see a gazillion cyclists.

Have fun!

Thanks again to you both for the info.  I have had a GREAT week of forced altitude training this week.  I ran the US 1/2 Marathon on Saturday.  Coming from Michigan, where my house sits ata whopping 19 ft of altitude, I was elated to run a 2:18 on what they were calling The Nation's Hardest 1/2 (I typically run about 1:50).  Then, yesterday, I swam 1,500 yards over at The Breck Rec Center.  Great place with SUPER folks working there.  Swimming at altitude was far more difficult than running and it was a bear to get my breathing right.  Next up is biking.  Since the whole family is going, I think we'll stick to pavement, possibly taking the trail from Breck to Frisco & back.  I knew it would be beautiful our here, but we've been blown away at just how amazing it is!
