I know the geometry differences between the road frames and tri frames. I can understand that you use the muscles in a differnet way (so to speak). But that is while seated. Does the different geometry have an effect when standing?
I can only see the there are now two points of contact, pedals and handlebars. So (assuming the placement of the bars is equal on both bikes also same cranks, rings etc) wouldn't your form be the same on both when standing?

Slightly different but only because of the bar positions that you have available - this is why some complain that it is harder to climb on their tri bikes - there are just less options for where you can put your hands.  Otherwise you are correct in your assumption that in general standing will be similar with the two different bikes.

Between how far forward a tri seat is, and how far back arm rests can be, your knees have far less room to move.  Otherwise, they're the same.

+2. I found that I was so dialed into my road bike while climbing that, even though the differences were just slight (handlebars, weight, twitchy steering), I still felt pretty terrible climbing on my tri bike at first. But now after about a month of riding my tri bike exclusively on hilly routes, it feels perfectly fine while climbing.

It also feels much better when descending but still not close to my road bike. My first impression remains which is that the differences between tri/road are far more important in descending than climbing.
