Subject: Switch an entire week of a training plan?
I've got a race on 9/6.  My training plan calls for a race the weekend after.  Heres how my plan looks now:

Week 1)  Heavy swim week.
Week 2)  Heavy run week.
Week 3)  Heavy bike week.
Week 4)  Light training and race on weekend.
Week 5)  Heavy training week.

My race though, is at the end of week 3.  Can I (should I) switch weeks 3 and 4 around?  Should I just train through it and leave the schedule as is?  This is only a "C" sprint race.  I'm training for IMFL...

I know a sprint doesn't really make a lot of sense, but its the last race I need to get points in a series.

I say switch the weeks so that you have the lighter training week before your Sprint.

I recently switched two weeks for the same reason, and I've had no ill effects :-)I would just suggest making the day after your race one of the easier days of that hard training week.

Good luck!

My training plan weeks typically go hard, hard, hard, easy..repeat.  So switching would leave me with four hard weeks instead of the usual three.  I suppose I can hang with that though....

Hard to say what would be best.  You could also 'split the difference', basically going with 2-1/2 hard weeks, 1 easier week (with the race now in the middle of the 'week') and then 3-1/2 hard weeks.  Really depends on your ability to handle the training load and the intensity of the race (and ability to consider options such as splitting a 'week' like that from a time management perspective).

My training plan has me doing the same -3 hard weeks then 1 recovery.  Perhaps if you were making these changes all the time it would start to wear you down, but I think you should be ok for the one week!
