Getting Back Into Running From Injury- How Many Runs Per Week??

Subject: Getting Back Into Running From Injury- How Many Runs Per Week??
Getting back into running from a lengthy injury. 

I will start with a mix of walking/running for about 1-2 months before I get into a 16 week plan.

How many times should I run/walk per week in the next 1-2 months to minimise injury and get me ready for a plan?

Background- running is my main background so I'm relatively good at at, I plan on starting out baby steps and building up to 40 mins running after 8-9 weeks from today.

Depends on the injury and how your rehabilitation went.  If it is one that has a high probability of recurring, then I would suggest less.  If it was a freak one with low probability of happening again then I would suggest something else.

It's moderate chance of recurring, it's wasn't a freak accident. Achilles problems. Tried getting back into it about 2 months ago but didn't work out for me once I got to about 20 min continuous running.

I might stick with the 3x week. I mean why go more? Soon enough you can get back to 4x if all is well.

I am just coming back from a pretty bad groin/hip injury from mid June. It was 6 weeks of no running, then I started physical therapy 3x a week, after a bit more than a week of PT I was allowed to start very slow, very short run/walk combos. Rehab ended two weeks ago and I am finally up 5 miles slow, I run 3x a week. I am sure I can do 4x soon, but things are going just fine as they are. My 2 cents!

I would say 3X a week, for a few weeks and see how you feel.  If you start off with more time per week then you are more likely to re injure yourself or cause anther injury that could be unrelated to the first.  But i would definitely say see how it goes and how you feel.
