Subject: RE: Swimming hyper ventilationmjones2 - 2009-09-18 1:18 PM I just started Tri's this year (2009). I have completed 2 sprints, 2 olympics and am doing my first 1/2 IM on 09/27/2009 at Deer Creek. In each of my events I "freak" out within the first 100 yds of the swim. It is horrible, I always ask myself why I do this and do I want to do this. This feeling lasts fr about 500-600 yds at which time I will breaststroke so that I can breath! During the last part of the swim I actually start enjoying myself, by the end of the tri I really love the entire event.
My question: How the heck do I slow my mind and head down to begin swimming freestyle while breathing? I am already worried about the start of my 1/2 next week, any advice is greately appreciated. Can you get in the water a bit before you start? I had that early on. would start to hyperventilate a bit, but I found if I got in the water and just sat there for a few minutes, I would end up gradually calming down. This seems to have gone awasy after doing more OWS. |
