Pre-race routine:

I was a bit sore from running a 10K the previous day, and had a terrible night's sleep at the hotel. Race was not until 2:30 pm. Finished eating a full meal at 11:00 am.

This race was in Halloween costume, and I was dressed as a cheetah. I just wore a cheetah print shirt with black shorts, cheetah ears and tail, and I drew on black whiskers and a nose. A LOT of people had crazy costumes that I wondered how in the world they were going to run in!
Event warmup:

Jogged around the block.

Comments:

Weather was cool, which helped tremendously. Once we settled into our places we pretty much stayed there. But at the turn around point I noticed there were a few women coming right behind me. I was NOT about to let any women pass at this point in the race, but I was pretty maxed out. I listened to the footsteps of a lady who was hot and heavy on my heels for a loooong time. I held her off the best I could before she finally passed and I unhappily conceded. I did not have it in me to catch back up with her as we ran the last part of the race. But, I always finish strong with a sprint. And when I saw that she was keeping steady pace into the finish line I knew I could take that one place back from her now. As I sprinted in passing her I got passed by a bumble bee! But the bumble bee was a man, so that was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The silly costume. My tail kept flopping back and forth!

Event comments:

This turned out to be a personal record for me! I have never ever run faster than 8:31. I would have rather had a PR at yesterday's 10K, but this makes up for it!

I felt SO much better today than yesterday. It seems temperature and humidity level have a big effect on my performance, moreso than tackling hills.

Yea... I didn't want to have to scratch her or trip her with my tail!

I found a pic right before I passed her with the bee hot on my tail.
