Subject: Boulder 70.3
Hi, im looking at doing the 70.3 in boulder next year. Id be travelling over from the uk and would be making it a holiday aswell.
So....can anyone tell me how tough a course it is, how hot it will be etc. Also, what else is there to do from a tourist point of view.

Poo,thanks for your info on IM France. I am going next year. Interestingly enough Iused to live in Boulder, well before the race though. I don't believe the race goes into the mountains - more rollling I believe, but you'll have to hear from someone who has raced the course. As for the temp. - It can be real hot in August - but a dry heat. It is actually a desert like atmosphere - can be chilly in the a.m. and hot in the p.m. The swim should be mellow-clean calm water. Expect serious competition - Boulder is the endurance athlete capital of the USA. While living there you see it all - from pro cyclists gearing up for the olympics to Kenyans training for NYC marathon. As far as a vacation, save some energy. It is IMHO one of the greatest cities in the country. If your into hiking and the outdoors, it can't be beat.

Agree - the bike course is a little bit rolling, but lots of fast, slightly downhills too.  It does not have any what I would consider 'serious' climbs.

The run is very exposed with little shade, so it can get HOT.  But the nice thing is that it's largely on dirt roads, so less impact.

The other factor to include is the altitude.  Boulder is at 5430 feet above sea level, so prepare to feel a bit out of breath if you aren't used to the elevation.  I've heard a lot of people say they feel it most in the swim.

I've done it 4 times and overall, I think it's a great race.  IMHO, it's probably one of the easier 70.3 courses (minus the altitude factor).

And there's tons to do around Boulder/Denver, esp if you like the outdoors - hiking, biking, kayaking, rock climbing.  HTH!

They all got it right...very flat bike by Colorado standards...more like false flats really.

The run is on dirt paths mostly but does get hot!
