Subject: RE: max heart rate My philosphy, which is clearly not scientific: your max heart rate = the highest number you've even seen. Duh.
Don't be confused by those charts that you see everywhere which just use a calculation of your age and some 220 number. That's such a rough estimate that I've never met anyone that it really fits.
My chart number tells me my max heart rate should be (220-35 ) 185. Phoey! That's not even close. The highest number I've ever seen was 199, in the finish chute at a race, while in an all-out sprint.
Through several years of training, I've determined that my lactic threshhold is roughly 175bpm. So, that's what I aim for during training runs. That's the point where I get the best workout for the least amount of muscle soreness.
Just curious, how do you feel during and after running at 216? |
