Subject: Travelling to Syndey next week..where to s/b/r?
Greetings everyone!  I am heading to Sydney next week for business and will be in town for roughly 8 weeks, actually am staying up in Baulkham Hills area.  This will be my first trip out that way (oh yeah, I'm from the states) so I'm extremely unfamiliar with everything.  Is anyone able to offer advice on what the area is like and what my options may be for s/b/r?  I'm hoping it's a nice enough area to simply walk out the hotel door and go for a run?  Any shops in the area for bike rentals?  In terms of swimming I'm hoping/assuming the hotel will have a pool although I'm not even sure which hotel I'm staying at as work is arranging all of that.  Any public pools in the area that I can drop into a few times a week if the hotel isn't an option?

Thanks for the help

I dont know that area too well... I drive past it on the motorway home but dont really stop!

The good news is you wont be too far from the M7 Cycle path which is 40ks (80k return) of path, no traffic lights, a few inclines (I struggled last time I tried but Im also not on a bike much at the moment) and its well lit...

You do get runners/walkers on the path but its another option for you and its great for a run to I imagine!

Not sure on the closest pool... but maybe your new workmates might know?

Thanks for the reply!  Don't even have new work mates yet as I'll be out there recruiting first, training second.  So if you know anyone that is looking for work?  Contact centre position with a health/wellness driven company with great growth potential.  We are just now expanding operations to include Aus and NZ, thus my trip out.

It appears the hotel has a pool so hopefully it's sufficient for workouts.  Oh, where's a great place to take some surfing lessons?

I say for the surfing lessons... rent a car or take the train/bus and head to Manly or Bondi... its a bit of a hike from Baulkham Hills but both are must have Sydney experiences in terms of beaches if a bit too popular!

Hiya,

Welcome to Sydney!  For cycling, you might want to check out the following:

http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/AboutSydney/ParkingAndTransport/Cycling/CyclingMapsAndRoutes.asp

Sydney have done a lot with cycle routes recently so worth having a look at what's on offer.  You're not a million miles away from Sydney Olympic Park either, and that has some great cycle tracks with very low traffic, as it was built (as the name suggests) for the Olympic games a few years ago.

If you're planning on getting over to the beaches to surf, you might also want to incorporate your run on those days, running by the beaches is fantastic.  Bondi has a track which goes along the cliffs to Tamarama Beach, on to Bronte, and you can carry on down to the more southern beaches depending how far you want to run.  If you're heading to Manly, you can either trail run the Manly to Spit walk (if you google it you'll find the route) or do any number of shorter runs next to Manly Beach, from Manly to Shelley Beach or round the inner harbour towards Balgowlah, or even head north to Freshwater and just keep running north from beach to beach.

There's loads of pools in Sydney; there's a great swimming pool at North Sydney which is outdoor and looks onto the Harbour Bridge, there are also saltwater pools at the north end of Manly Beach and at Bondi and Coogee Beaches, and of course many indoor pools aswell.  For open water swimming, if you're experienced in the waves most of the beaches will be ok, if not then head to one of the inner harbour beaches (e.g. Balmoral Beach near Mosman) where there are no waves and hence no (or little) current.

Good luck with the stay - hope you enjoy it!!
