Comments: Didn't realize I would be so "close" to the front of the pack. The lead group at the beginning pretty much pulled ahead of the pack and stayed that way. I was passed by one guy just before mile marker 1...passed by another guy just after mile marker 1...then ran with a guy that caught me just before mile marker 3...eventually to be overtaken and finishing just behind him. What would you do differently?: Not go out quite so fast. Though I would never have imagined being able to keep up the 6:20/mile pace for 2 miles. Mile 3 dropped off a bunch...7:41 (ouch). Looks like I need to work on building endurance.  Post race
Warm down: Banana and cup of Gatorade. Walk to shower. Shower/shave and dress for church before award ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: Going out a bit too fast. Lack of energy/endurance for mile 3. Event comments: Can't beat the location/surroundings. Not as well attended as I expected. The 5K was kind of like a side show for the marathon/half marathon. We turned off the main course just before mile marker 1, then passed mile marker 25, then 12 (no 2 or 3). Last updated: 2006-01-29 12:00 AM

Great splits - Mile 1 and Mile 2 @ 6:20 and then you finish it with Mile 3 @7:40? Awesome. Callaway Gardens is a beautiful area to have an event. The course around the lake sounds like what we was used to finish the international distance triathlon last Labor Day. The tri-bike course took us through the shaded lanes past two of the ponds that feed into the lake. Looking forward to seeing you at that race. Congrats on the great times at the 5k. GREAT way to start out the season. |

Wake @ 5:15 AM, Carnation Instant breakfast + ~16 oz. Gatorade during drive to race, arrive at race site @ 6:15 AM, sipped on bottled water up to race-time @7:50 AM.
Jogged to mile marker 1 and back(to see the 5K turning point that I didn't know about during my walkthrough yesterday). Took a couple short sprint bursts to raise HR. Got back to the starting line ~ 10 minutes before starting time.
