Pre-race routine:

Ate at 5 pm a couple hours later than I would have liked.
Got a real good nights sleep on Thursday, restless sleep Friday night.
Got up about 3hrs prior to the race had a bananna and a smoothie, drank some gatorade and water in the morning.
Event warmup:

Light stretch and jogged about 1/4 mile just before the start.
Run

  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

A little cooler than I like, I probably overdressed, a mesh liner, coolmax top, cycling vest, cycling jacket, winter cycling gloves, tights. I opened the jacket and vest, one misteak was unzipping the jacket completely, on the way back into the wind I had to stop and zip it back up (note to self, don't unzip outer layer all the way) I had to make one nature stop, thankfully they had two port a podies on the course. I probably could have gone out a little harder, but overall very please with the run.
What would you do differently?:

Eat less and earlier than I did the night before, take my protein shake with physillium husks the night before. All in all I was very happy with my first run only race in about 4 years.

Excellent race! Not bad at all for a grandpops

Way to recover from being under the weather a few days prior to the race and still completing it in excellent time!
