I have a "grain" bag for heating, but it's gotten old and does not heat well (nor keep heat well).

I'm fairly sure of HOW to make one on my own (if I can sew straight lines for quilts, I can do this).

EXCEPT, WHAT KIND OF GRAIN/BEAN DO YOU USE??

this made me curious, so I did some Google-ing... it seems that rice is quite popular.  I even saw one item where they suggested adding some kind of aromatic or oil to the rice so that it gives a scent when you use it.

You can also use uncooked beans or mineral salts.  If you have an old tub sock, you can use that and avoid sewing all together.

Rice. One of my girls made them for their Grandmas this year. Nuke it for 3 minutes, depending on amount of rice of course, and they work really well. Jasmine rice does add the aromatic element too.

THANKS!    Someone else mentioned the tube sock, but my @$$ is a little too big for that

I LOVE the size of my current pack b/c it can lay the entire length of my IT band or from my butt down my hamstring.

Sewing isn't an issue for me.  My mom had the idea of just sewing seams as I fill it to keep it all from shifting to one side or the other. (My current bag is sewn into little squares)  Think I'll tackle this over the weekend.

Will let y'all know how it comes out.
