So I was trying to be a good fur-mom and took the 2 K-9s to the off leash dog park
As I'm being dragged across the park to the dog area the little guy stops and pees. I'm checking for poop and see cherry kool-aid like liquid come out of the dog. I freak. Dogs back in the car, off to the vet!
I kept thinking maybe I imagined the blood, but I let the guy go before we went in and sure enough. He even got a bit of blood on his white/shoe paw. : (
The dog is acting fine. Barely seems to notice anything.
The vet does an ultrasound and an xray (along with urine sample). Nada. She suggests doing a blood panel. After some discussion I say do it. She is concerned because he seems to be urinating pure blood. She finds nothing in the blood panel and is guessing its a bad UTI.
So we went home with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and a $500 bill. A little of this post is whining. We just got our tax refund deposited this morning. It was probably the biggest one I've gotten. But that was being set aside for near term emergency in case DT (hubby) goes on strike and doesn't get paid. If not for emergency, then it was going to go towards a credit card.
I don't regret spending the money on the dog, I just feel like we get a needed financial break and then we have to turn around and use it.
On the bright side, puppy took his pills easily- covered in cheese- we had drama with getting medicine down his throat the one other time we needed to. :sigh:
ETA: Dog is around 5 yrs and hasn't had any other health issues aside from kennel cough after we adopted him in Oct '11

...ahhh kids. I love the vet.

Sorry to hear. At least you did not have to pay $2000 for a minor frackus over a $2 bone.

Sending healing vibes and belly rubs to your pup, hope he heals soon!  And a hug for you, too, spending your refund on your furball instead of adding to the just-in-case fund.  Hopefully all works out.

I'm glad to hear the pup is healthy and well

Money well spent for peace of mind and good news.

I had a pup (7 yr old dog) that peed blood and when I got him to the vet they told me he had a tumor on his spleen and it had ruptured.  I lost him that day.  Good endings are always worth the money

You were being a responsible and good caretaker to the dogs. Hope he heals up quickly and with no further investment needed.  I know its can be hard to spend the money on what might seem to be a no big deal kind of thing, but hopefully good karma comes back around.
