Fellow NFL fans...is it too crazy to expect veteran players to go out and show off their talent in a combine environment?

I'm certain the NFLPA would never let it happen...but wouldn't it be neat to see a 5-year veteran or a 10 year veteran proving they haven't lost a step?

Or removing all doubt that they have?

The recipient club does give a physical, but I doubt they go Albert Haynesworth on a free agent. The thing about free agency is that the prospect has a huge body of work to judge by. Given, guys like Revis, you simply don't know about the ACL. But you have that body of work to judge against.

IMHO: Safer, but more expensive route than the draft. And shorter term.

Teams already have the option of requesting a private workout if they are interested in signing a player, and players can also hold workouts if they wish.

Obviously, teams also have hours of footage of any players they are interested in performing against other NFL players in real game situations, so a combine situation wouldn't really provide much more in the way of useful information.

I would like to see Michael The No Longer Burner Turner run a 10.41 in the 40 though.

Yeah, it was a bad idea...but I'm just dying to see some of these established stars put it out there.  Why?  I have no idea.  I understand straight line speed, running in and out of cones, and catching passes from a Jugs machine have almost nothing to do with determining a great NFL player, I would just love to see the NFL studs square off in various athletic challenges...something a-kin to the SuperStars Challenge type show they did back in the '80's with Hollywood stars.

Honestly, I'd watch events like Peterson vs. CJ2K in a 100 meter hurdles race, a deep bomb competition between Flacco and Rodgers...heck, get some old-timers in there too.  Jeff George had a rocket...with all the weight he's got behind it, don't count out JaWalrus Russell either.

I'd watch that freakshow before I'd ever consider watching an All-Pro game a.k.a. NFL flag football.
