Welcome! First easy tip is to make sure you read everything from the race website that is available so that you know any specific rules and most importantly the course (small races aren't always the most clearly marked). Good idea is to just read through some of the more detailed threads in TT as there are a lot of knowledgeable people who are always willing to share (that is the great thing about triathlon!). Oh and have fun and race with a smile.

Also, they will have portapotties at the race. Nobody ever tells you this info. But, there will be lines before the race.
Plan accordingly.

As an older gent on water pills, this kind of thing is of grave concern to me. But, this also helped me embrace the joys of open water swimming.

Unfortunately our condo is full with my family. But try VRBO. You might find a condo for rent in the Waikoloa area. If not, you can find a spot in Kona and drive 20 minutes on the morning of the race.
