I am not sure what clip you saw, there are a few that are missing a few seconds at the beginning.

His message should have been all of us need to appreciate what the veterans did for us and we should all buy and wear a poppy.

What he said was immigrants come here, enjoy our way of life and don't show respect for the vets that gave us this way of life.

It's not an immigrant thing. It's educating people about what happened. A lot of "born in Canada" kids don't know about it, some immigrants don't know about it. So they don't wear a poppy.

He singled out immigrants. He apparently was given the opportunity to correct his message and refused to do so.

He caused a big stink a few years ago when he said that Fench Canadians and Europeans were sissies because they wore visors. French Canadians went nuts and the uber liberals said he was sending the wrong message to kids. Kids see him as a clown.

I'd guess 70% of Canadians are glad to see him go.

I think it's a show. Deep down he is a really good person. But he is putting on a show. But he is past his expiry date. Time to take him off the shelf.
