Good price for used bike?

 1 |  Subject: Good price for used bike?Looking to get some helpful advice in regards to a 2013 Trek 1.5 series (compact) bike that is being sold for $400. The seller claims there is on about 160 miles on it. As someone who will be new to the road bike arena and looking to not break the bank on a bike before knowing if this is something i'd be interested in, i am looking for a inexpensive entry bike. Would this bike qualify as that given the price point? is this a good deal? Trek makes good products and the resell value holds up well due to the name brand recognition. $400 isn't a bad asking price, in my opinion. it will be a nice enough bike to give you an idea if you want to get more into the sport, and if so the trek will make a nice back up bike once you upgrade. |

1520  Cypress, Texas | Subject: RE: Good price for used bike? The Bike Blue Book put the value of this bike at $408-$419 in Excellent (Near New) condition. If it only has 160 miles on in then there is a good chance it is in that good of condition. So the price is fair as long as there aren't any hidden damage, defects, or neglect. As long as you are getting the bike for what it is worth there isn't too much downside. If you love the bike you can ride it into the ground and if you don't you can resell it without being out much and get something that addresses anything that you don't like in the first bike. Look for bikes in the that price range that have better components, Shimano 105, Shimano Ultegra. One of my road bikes is a 2011 Felt F75, aluminum frame, carbon fork with Shimano 105 groupset and the blue book was around $375-400 in good condition. |
