Subject: Learning race organization business

I watched a show that put a fire in my belly to do some fundraising to support a cause that breaks my heart. It occurred to me that I never see races in support of this particular cause and wouldn't it be neat to put together a fundraising race? This means I need to learn 2 businesses - the fundraising business (rrizzo) and the race organization business.

Anyone have resources to direct me to regarding learning the race organization business?

I have plenty of brains, energy, drive, and pushiness. Just need to learn what I don't know to get things done. I appreciate any advice you can offer.

If you want to do a triathlon for your race, USAT may have some event directors packet or info.

My best recommendation, tho', is to go attach yourself as an unpaid do-everything type of person for a local race which has a good reputation of being well-run.

I've done some running races, and some mtb races, and some road cycling tours, and that's where I learned the most - on the job.

Come to think of it, you can learn a lot from a bad race director, too...about what NOT to do.

Out of curiosity, why not hire a race director to help you? Contact a local race management company, and have them do most of it. I know one near where I live, he does that sort of thing all the time. And even if he's not directing it, he does timing for races as well.
