Swim
Comments: Surprised myself on the swim. I shaved 5 minutes off my regular pool time during this swim. Took advantage of the woman swimming infront of me who was doing the breast stroke and could see the bouy every stroke. Didn't have to look up as much What would you do differently?: Get anti-fog stuff for the goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Sensitive feet got the best of me here. Getting from the lake to the transition area was really tough. It was like walking on pins and needles. I was saying "ouch!" with every step I took. What would you do differently?: leave shoes (tevas) at the swim finish Bike
Comments: Thought at the beginning of the race that I'd be suffering with the run...until I biked this course with what seemed like the never-ending hills. What would you do differently?: Train more on the bike. Stay out longer while training on the bike and fit more larger hills into the route. Transition 2
Comments: Don't have biking shoes, so didn't have to worry about changing them. Took my time, deliberately, to drink as my body was craving water, not the cytomax that I had in the bottle on the bike (which is usually sufficient). What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Still am unable to run a 5k without walking. Instead of running what I could, and then walking/dragging my feet for an unexcuseable ammount of time I planned to run 5 telephone poles and walk 1 (ONLY ONE!). I did that regardless of how I felt. This was my personal best 5k time that I've run, despite swimming and biking horrendous hills before hand. What would you do differently?: Continue training to be able to run whole 5k. Post race
Warm down: Walking around the finish area several times while drinking water looking for a Beginner Triathlete sign...Ellen & Max, where were you? What limited your ability to perform faster: Work travel and vacation travel (totaling 3 weeks) all within a month of the tri wasn't the best for training. But, I can't not be pleased with the results from tri #1 because I crossed the finish line in one piece! Also, carrying around 30 extra lbs while biking and running doesn't help either! (at least in the water it floats!) Event comments: I thought that this race was very well organized, but was very disappointed that there was only watermelon to eat afterwards. No bagels, no cookies, no hot dogs :), no nothing. I say that the overall course was "just right" but I thought for beginners the HILLS were tough. Last updated: 2004-08-03 12:00 AM
