Subject: RE: Race Nexus BrokeHolley, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I think you've run up against a symptom of our growing pains.
It's likely that the races you're expecting to see have been entered in people's race lists, but the information hasn't been validated by someone here. If that's the case, the races are available to be added to Your Races if you search through the Add A Race wizard, but they won't show up in the main state by state directory. Yes, it's frustrating. The backlog of races to be validated has grown beyond what we ever expected.
When we came up with this design it was workable, but the sheer volume of races entered has become overwhelming, so we're making some changes. For starters, we just hired someone part time who's sole function is going to be going through the Nexus and validating races. Why not just use the Wikipedia model and let anyone enter/modify race data? We tried it. It's more work and much less reliable than what we have now. We're also starting right now on some other changes and enhancements to the Nexus to make it easier to use. Simpler searches, a more streamlined appearance and a few other things. One of the ideas being kicked around is the creation of a Race Director account type which will have the ability to enter and edit information for races they own. If anyone is motivated to make sure that the data is correct and up to date, it's the RD, right? The way I see it is, you send a message to us saying "I'm an RD, here's my/our website, here's my BT username" and we configure your account to take ownership of races in the Nexus. You can then edit those races or enter new ones. Any RD's reading this, feel free to give your thoughts about how this would work best for you. |
