New race has popped up in Plano. This is at my local pool I always swim at and plan on attending to help support a first year event. Salt water pool swim is nice, they are having a kids race before the adults, and they are even offering baby sitting.

Race starts late at 9:30am after the kids tri so we don't even have to wake up super early for this one. That will be a nice change.

I might do some work at this race.  Texas Triple Threat is putting it on and that is the club I belong to so I thought it might be a good idea.

It's in a salt water pool?  New one for me, sounds like fun.  Is it an indoor or outdoor pool?

Yep.  Pretty sure indoor esp in October or it would be pretty chilly.  Salt water is nice but don't know if you will really notice in a race this short.  Hang out in one for a water for a while and definately you can.

Definitely indoor. Really nice pool 50m pool. All of the pools in Plano rec centers are salt water. And membership is super cheap too. It's nice to be able to swim regularly and not smell like chlorine. I don't really notice but the wife says it's easier on her skin, whatever that means.

I think Oak Point is a chlorine pool. The Tom Muel... is definitely salt water. Both also have UV filters, so they should be void of that crypto crap.

I'm curious if this is going to be with 50m or 25yd lands. The Sprint tri is advertised in yards while the Kids is in meters.  Also, the more I think about it, I'm not sure how traffic control is going to be. I bet there will be alot of pissed off drivers at the major intersections, especially the way pool swim tris spread out the cyclists. I do hope it goes well as I'd love to do a late race close to home.

The swim is going to be setup in the pool as 25yd pool. Confirmed it with the RD. He did not elaborate but for some reason City of Plano would not allow them to configure the pool for 50m. Makes no sense to me but he said hopefully next year. And Oak Point is most definitely salt water as is Muhlenbeck.

Not sure the concern with traffic control and drivers. It should be like any other race where drivers have to wait at lights for the race that's going on, can't see how it would be any different or any more or less of a problem.

The tris I've done have either been on very low-traveled roads or in protected lanes with mostly right turns. This course has many left turns and straights through fairly major roads. Anybody who lives in Murphy, Wylie, Parker probably uses one of these roads to get to/from 75 or 190. Then, the race is 2 hours later than normal so there will be more traffic.

When drivers have to wait, they get pissed. Some drive more aggressively as a result and some complain to the city. Either way, it's not good for us. I'd really like it to go well as I do like the idea of a late race and one that is close to my house, but I'm just a little concerned about the bike route.

Kevin and I will be officiating this event.

Would be great to meet some more folks.............I'll be easy to find in the required stunning red shirt, khaki pants and black hat..........just what you want to be wearing to a summer event in Texas.

Mid-October, it's likely this event will be cool to cold. At least it is starting a bit later for everyone else and will give the temps a chance to warm up if it happens to be cool.

I haven't been swimming much lately but was at Oak Point again the other day and you might be right. When I started swimming there almost a year ago I was positive it was salt, but now after they closed for a week for maintenance it didn't seem as salty before. I couldn't tell one way or the other.

They wouldn't just switch it for some reason. I'm going to ask when I go again to find out for sure.

is this race on the texas triple threat website??  yes I'm too lazy to open up a new window, type their name in it, and look around even though it would have taken less time then the time I took to type this...

I just saw a flier for this at Oak Point after my swim this afternoon. While I doubt I'll be ready for racing it after Longhorn, I'll definitely be up for some volunteer action to help give back. I don't think I'll race again until Monster Tri really.

Was looking at the swim setup this morning. 2 way lanes for 250 of the 300 yards. Frak. You would think they could set up Oak Point to have 1 way lanes.

Hopefully I lied about my swim time enough that I won't have to worry about getting stuck behind somebody. Otherwise just have to pass on the wall I guess.

I'm with you. Not sure why they did that. I actually asked the RD about it and he said something that Oak Point/Plano wouldn't let them switch the pool to long course setup for some reason.

I did Denison a few weeks ago and was able to pass a few people successfully with the same setup just by really hugging them close while passing. But then a 150yd later some guy runs smack into me head on when he was trying to pass someone completely on my side of the lane rather down the middle. I just hope that doesn't happen again.

What time did you seed yourself?  I ended up guessing at 4:45 and swam a 4:15 last night as a trial run, hopefully I wont get stuck either.  My friend guessed 10 minutes, he is going to get stuck big time.  I told him he needed to try to get that changed.  When you say "pass at the wall" does that mean you have been tapping feet and they stop at the side and let you pass?

Yes, regularly if you tap at someones feet a bit during the length they will generally wait just a second and let you go on at the wall. If you're on their feet they won't lose much time waiting a second for you to go.

Now for your buddy who put 10 minutes, I'll bet the athletes around him won't know what it means when you get tapped on the feet and he probably won't have this luxury and will just have to pass. Then again people around him may be holding on and resting at the walls anyways.
