Expert 929 Hawaii | Subject: morning bums support group A group of us have started a more informal “morning bums” challenge, and it was suggested that I start a thread. It’s for people who have a hard time getting up in the morning. Since we’re all on different schedules (and want to keep this simple) we’re not doing a “numbers” challenge. Basically, if you plan on getting up in the morning to train, but fail to do so, you have to leave a couple of inspires for other people in the challenge. Those inspires should include 1: an admission of our inability to get out of bed, and 2: (if the other person managed to drag themselves out of bed) a congratulatory statement on their awesomeness. Pure bragging if one does manage to get out of bed is also encouraged. Davealt also suggested some sort of avatar changing to a bunch a ZZZZZZ's to the losing party. So far, we have 7 people in need of encouragement to get up in the morning. To keep it simple, should we keep the groups relatively small? I suppose it'll depend on how many other people want to play...and then we'll figure it out. Just add your name to the list if you want to join: davealt Dream Chaser mtskibumnaners redlv ronen smilford tritwinmom |

Subject: RE: morning bums support group Naners, should we post here in the thread the night before if we have an early morning workout planned? If so, I plan to get up at 5:30 AM and get in either an hour of running or biking... not sure - but either way, I need to HTFU outta bed and get busy training. If not, let me hear it Bums!! Expert 929 Hawaii | Subject: RE: morning bums support group Eeesh, that rolling alarm clock is cruel! Genius, but cruel. Dream Chaser - 2008-09-24 9:56 AM Naners, should we post here in the thread the night before if we have an early morning workout planned? If so, I plan to get up at 5:30 AM and get in either an hour of running or biking... not sure - but either way, I need to HTFU outta bed and get busy training. If not, let me hear it Bums!! I dunno. That would definitely work. I think it depends on the level of involvement people want. What does everyone think? I, for one, plan on getting up tomorrow morning and going for a jog. If I don't I may look into one of redlv's alarm clocks. |

Veteran 217 San Diego, CA | Subject: RE: morning bums support group As of yesterday:"My plan for tomorrow is get up at 4:45am and drive to the gym for a treadmill tempo". As of this morning: Woke up at 4:50am, got to the gym and ran (almost) as planned. The overhead of gym training is way to high... My plan for tomorrow is to get up at 4:50am and drive to the pool for the masters program.

Expert 671 | Subject: RE: morning bums support group Sleeping in. I need this motivation desperately. I only have the morning to work out. Nights are consumed by family (this is a good thing but bad for working out). For Friday 9/26--I plan on getting up at 4:45am then ride to work (25 miles). I deserve written abuse if I don't. |

Expert 831 Eltham North, Victoria | Subject: RE: morning bums support group Good morning all, I really need to join this group. Evening workouts are out for me and tho I'm a stay at home mum I simply feel too guilty if I spend all my day time hours training and the family comes home and there's no food and the house is a sty. Oh and it's school holidays...if I don't get up...no workout! Anyway, I did manage to get up at 5:00am this morning(Friday) to do my run. I'm very proud of myself. Tammie |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: morning bums support group Offthegrid - 2008-09-24 4:49 PM Tomorrow I've got a 6 a.m. run on the schedule. I bailed, but I plead for a medical excuse! I woke up somewhere around 3 a.m. and felt sick to my stomach, and spent the next two hours being sick. Been fighting nausea all day. Still feel sick. WTF?!? I'll see how I feel tonight and if I get any sleep for tomorrow. Ideally, I'd like to take the dog for an easy walk in the a.m. tomorrow. |

Expert 671 | Subject: RE: morning bums support group I bailed as well. Friends showed up on my doorstep last night and we went for a brutal run test. Warmed up 1 mile and then ran 30 minutes as hard as we could and took our average HR the last 20 minutes. This will set my training zones for winter training and a spring marathon. We will be testing once a month. The tet itself is a brutal workout.....so I did not get up and ride to work as planned. I tried to rest and recover. Tomorrow...AM 3 mile run planned-easy. Will probably be pushing kids in a stroller to let my better half sleep in. |

Extreme Veteran 530 Northwest Louisiana | Subject: RE: morning bums support group I soooooo NEED this group!!!! I am not a morning person but I need to workout in the mornings because I simply just don't have the energy to workout in the evenings after work. I also prefer to leave my evenings for family activities. I am also training for my first marathon and morning runs are much cooler and more comfortable. I managed to get up 3 times this week. I actually got up this morning, but I have a hard time getting out there to run while it's dark!! I hate it that the sun doesn't rise until 7 a.m. Anyone else have the same problem? I'm hoping that being in this group will help me meet my goals of getting up in the morning for my runs and my workouts. My official workout tomorrow is my long run at 6:30 a.m. I will definitely get up for that one, but you may leave me nice comments! Edited by zeefraugtries 2008-09-26 4:24 PM |

I prefer mornings as I would like to devote more time to family activities and rest after work. I am also training for my first marathon and don't really like to run when it is dark. This week I went to the gym for my morning (treadmill) run. I don't think that this will work for me as there is too much overhead associated with that - and therefore, I can run less time and a shorter distance than otherwise. Given that, I will keep running on the streets, in the dark - but with a flashlight. Good luck tomorrow! |

Extreme Veteran 530 Northwest Louisiana | Subject: RE: morning bums support group Thanks for the welcome Ronen!! I don't like running in the dark either, especially being a woman and running alone. However, it will be the only way to get my training runs in during the week. I've resolved to try and make all my training runs...fell one short this week, but i am determined to get the rest in...I really want to improve on my times. I look forward to learning from you on the joint marathon first-timer experience. Which one are you doing? BTW, went to wal-mart and bought this light thingie you clip on your cap. It was in the sporting section (like hunting, near the flashlights). It's really cool, saw it on another runner...you will definitely be seen wearing that! |
