Subject: Ironman Madison
Hey all...I'm planning on making my first attempt at an Ironman next year in Madison.  I've heard that it fills extremely quick.  I'm right here in St Paul.  Has anyone else had experience, good or bad, in signing up for it?  Do I have a chance on active.com or is the 4 hour drive worth it?  I would really prefer to stay as local as possible in my first IM just to keep it as normal as possible, has anyone done IM Kansas?  Thanks a lot guys.

I think you're referring to Ironman Wisconsin.  And yes, it is difficult to get in through Active.  The race sells out within a few short minutes.  If you are adamant about doing Ironman Wisconsin (IMWI) in 2009 your best bet is to drive up and get in line at 4 or 5 AM on Monday September 8th and register in person.

I raced IMKS 70.3 (Ironman Kansas) this year.   Any questions about?

I got in on-line for this year's race, but it sold out in something like 20 minutes.

i was told inasmuch .. it sells out.. quickly.. so I made the most of it .. and put in volunteer for the day of the race.. and then the next day I got up around 6AM and got in line... a long line.. but this ensured .. with absolute certainty.. that I would get in... it also helps to have the long term YEARLY outlook for such a race.. putting your mind and plans around it takes a while to acclimate into the mindset...

I am  racing the "City Of Lakes" on Sunday morning then driving to Madison and volunteering at the medical tent on Sunday afternoon 4-8. sleeping in my car... or splitting a hotel with someone then registering the next day.  If you go to the WIM site there is a athlete guide that spells every thing out. Yes it fills up VERY fast. If you have volunteered, you get priority registration.

Any one want to join me?
