Ladies and Gents,

I need some assistance, so where else to go but the experts. After running a few sprint tri's this year I now want to try a half marathon. I have heard the attached training guide is a good one for a beginner. However, can someone explain in English what the schedule is prescribing for Tuesday and Thursday workouts?

Are you referring to the abbreviations AI and GP?  They are explained at the bottom of the training plan.

I understand what AI and GP stand for. For example, what does it mean when it says:

2 miles. 5-7 1:00 AI, 2 miles

Does that mean I do a 2 mile run, and then 5-7 one minute runs at a pace that is elevated over my 2 mile run pace?

That is the way I would read it, run 2 miles do the 5 AI's then finish with 2 more miles

If you add the distances for each week up, reading it that way gets you the weekly total.

Unless it less 'incl.', then the AI segments are separate from the rest of the run.  (That's the ONLY way that the total miles listed for each week makes much sense, I think.)

So, "3 miles, 2x[2:00. 3:00, 4:00] AI, 2 miles" means run 3, then do your AIs, then 2 more miles.  But "6 miles, incl. 4x2:00 AI+ 6 GP" apparently means do 6 miles, and along the way include 4 2:00AIs, then (after the 6 miles is done) do your 6 GPs.
