I am thinking of buiilding my own tri bike with a Leader TT frame.
Anyone out there using Leader TT bikes? If so, How is it holding up?

I've been riding a 730TT for the past three seasons and have no complaints.  Obviously it is a budget frame so there are going to be some tradeoffs that you would expect from a higher end frame, but for the price I was more than willing to live with those.

For 2009 they have gone with internal routing and have a sharper downtube which IMO closes the gap even further between these frames and higher end ones.

I use mine on the trainer throughout the winter and about 25% of my annual riding is on the Leader with no issues to date.

As far as building it up; I built mine and the only things I didn't do myself was press the crown race (didn't have the tools), cut the steerer tube (it was carbon and I didn't want to risk it) and install the BB (had that done at the same time as the steerer tube.

I got my 730TT for Christmas this past year, so I don't even have a full year of riding it yet. But it is pretty good. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it gets the job done. The 2009's do look like thye are better than my model. I built mine up the same as you are trying and I think I came in under a grand. I'd have to recheck my components. I have a reynolds Ouzo fork, Shimano Ultegra w/ DA bar end shifters, Easton Vistas, Adamo race saddle, Vision base bar w/ PD carbon strykes, Speedplay Zeros, FSA Gossamer crankset, and Zero Components seatpost. So it is definitley doable. I think it weighs in around the same as a Felt S32. You can probably wait things out and find a deal on something comparable. But building it yourself is way more fun. Good Luck!

i will be building a Tri Bike this winter, i am already getting the parts together as what i am looking for comes for sale. I am tossing up between a full carbon frame or a Leader frame. i contacted Leader and they said that they were looking into a 735tt in Carbon and aluminum, like the 781r. If that actually comes to fruition i will definately buy a Leader. This will be my second bike build and i have most of the tools needed, the other stuff i bring to my LBS. I am in Southern CT, so if you need help let me know, maybe we can do the builds together. I have heard nothing but good things on the newer Leader frames, and the questions i have emailed them get answered promptly.

I have a 780tt I hae not ridden it but can tell ya it looks good and it accepted all my components from my old bike with no problusm except the steerer tube parts the 780tt did not match my cane creek ball bearings in a way that allowed the top of the tube to fit with out a 1/16 inich gap showing the top ball bearing I have been assured by both leader and the LBS this is not an issue.  I can say Leader was very prompt in returning my call, gave me a super great deal on this frame, and shiped fast.
