Subject: Tapering w/ week to go
Just joined BT (just found out about it) and my first sprint tri is this Sunday.  In some of the threads I read, it looked like it was recommended that I do all three events the day before, but I had planned on a rest day.  So not sure what to do.  Would appreciate any suggestions.  I know with sprints, the taper isn't as crucial...

resting the day before is probably a smart thing to do.  Your time will be well spent reviewing the transition video posted on BT and practicing a dress rehearsal of your transitions.  Run through the drill a few times.

 

In my first tri I focused on swimming form for the first few 100yds, after the first bouy I was visualizing my transition I had been practicing and before you knew I was there at T1, then T2, then I was a triathlete!

Thanks I really haven't focussed as much on the transitions as much as I should so I'll spend some time on that this week.  I will look for that video on BT--so far I haven't seen it.  There is so much to learn the first time but I'm psyched.  Thanks!

I disagree.  Before races I've been told to do something light just so you get your body moving and keep it loose. Before my race in July I did a light swim of half the distance of the race.  Don't push hard, just move.  I had a number of people more experienced than I advise this as well.

It depends on your fitness what you should do.

When I first started doing tris my coach had the day before was always a rest day.

As I have gotten fitter he usually has me do a short brick never all three sports.
