Subject: Need opinion on bike QUICK! Norco CRD Three?

Hey everyone.  I am new to triathlons - just starting to train for my first next summer.  I am currently using a mountain bike and want to get an inexpensive road bike to start out on.  If things go well, I can then splurg and get a better bike down the road.

There is only 1 left on sale.  Suggested retail is just under $1,000 and I found this one for $487 CDN.

 Does anyone have any experience with this bike or have an opinion on it?

That thing is a truck. 27.75 lb? That's way too heavy for a road bike--even a very inexpensive one.

I have no experience with this bike, but based on the weight alone I would steer clear of it. If price is a big issue, I would recommend eBay. I bought my first road bike there in 2002 for $200. It was 20 lb. Now, eBay is on more people's radar these days, so the prices for bikes are a little higher, but there are still deals if you are persistent.

You could also try www.bikesdirect.com for some cheap stuff.

I wonder if maybe that's a shipping weight--it's hard to imagine an aluminum road bike weighing that much.

Regardless, I think you'd do better on quality and price at bikesdirect.com

It's a good bike. The Dura-Ace and Ultegra components are very good, and the carbon fork and crankset are nice.

Aesthetically I don't like the seatpost or handlebars, but I'm sure big handlebars like that will offer many comfortable hand positions.

Bikesdirect just makes up arbitrary MSRP values, but at $1299 this is still a great value in a tri bike. Assuming no serious defects in any of the parts, you would be getting a lot for your money. In fact, even if you had to replace something you would still end up ahead.
