Sunday's Women's Tri at Winding Trails

Originally they posted that wave 1 - would be 35-44 - makes sense - 2 a/gs - very fast, winner will likely come from here. Fast ladies get to race on a course with no one ahead of them.

Today they send out new race details. Wave 1 is now 35-41. Yes, 41, you read it correctly. The rest of the 40-44 a/g gets to wait 6 mins and start 2 waves later and then fight their way past ALL competitors 41 yrs and younger.

Is it just me, or is this just not right? (BTW, I am of course in the higher end of the 40-44 a/g). I know that a tri is basically an individual time trial but it would be nice to be able to literally race against the people I am competing against rather than wonder what they are doing 2 waves ahead of me.

Interested in what peeps think. Any other races do anything wierd like this?

That is really weird if I was as crazy fast as you I would want to be able to see, hunt down and pick off somene in front of me or at least know that I couldn't... it is a race afterall.

Does this have any affiliation with the WT series?  In any event, best of luck.

If the winner is in wave #2, she will never "pick off" the 2nd place person.

This has been billed as a cuddly race for first-timers, so my guess is the #1 priority was to get the waves even numbers wise.

setting the cutoff at 41 is really odd to me.  Is it your actual age?  Or your USAT age?  Or just a typo?

a/gs for prizes will stay the same usual 40-44 etc I would presume but it seems wierd to not keep a/gs inclusive within waves - I'd rather have 3 waves and split the a/gs than have 2 waves - one 35-41 and one 42-49. I guess have to just go as fast a friggin' possible. :-)

They're also have Athena's start with their AGs in stead of all in the same wave, which creates the same problem, you really don't know who you're racing against.
