Does anyone else get post-race vertigo? After my first half-mary in the spring, I had terrible vertigo set in two days later. It lightened up after a couple of days and then went away.  I just did my first oly tri on Sunday and now it's back, though thankfully not as bad.

My general practitioner says that its probably due to dehydration.

I suffer from Meniere's which is an electrolytic imbalance in your cochlea. Diuretics to remove excess Sodium will, over time, reduce the swelling and restore your balance. I'm having a really bad episode this year.

I'm scheduled for a second opinoin with a specialist soon. This is one of the main questions I want answered b/c all 4 of my "attacks" have happened in summer druing periods of high workload (building a shed, heavy training loads). I haven't found a source to prove / disporove it, but I'd bet that dehydration could play a role here.

I'd guess blood pressure, hehydration, or water in your ears.

Thanks for both of your comments. I'm having trouble finding anyone else who has this problem.  Meniere's has been brought up as a possible reason.  I think I'm going to try working on the hydration and diet first (including v. limited caffeine and alcohol) and see if that works.

Limit the sodium as well. www.menieres.org and links within thqat are good first advice places to read.

Do you have tinnitus and a feeling of "fullness" or water in one ear? Those are classic Menieres symptoms.

Good luck with it. I've had a real bad summer dealing with it this year. Usually I'm basically asymptomatic. But this summer has been really bad and prolonged.

If it doesn't go away - or happens again - go see a doc.  Better to be safe than sorry.  I have had some fairly serious vertigo issues lately.  I was referred to a neurologist, but then my blood test came back.  Turns out I'm anemic.  So...it could be dehydration, could be low iron/vitamins, but it could be something more serious.  Have it checked out.
