Hello All.....I am very green to the sport of triathlon. Ive been training for about 4 months or so pretty seriously. I have my 1st sprint planned for March at UBC. I really can not committ to training consistently at nights at all the formal training centre(Tri-It,etc) as I have 2 young children (3 and 1). I  guess I am curious as to how many other Calgary Newbie's there are out there and looking to make some 'connections.' Someone is the same place as me looking to make some new Running friends, or someone to bike with etc.

Hey Trevor,

Well welcome to BT. I am in Calgary too and not part of any club, they are out of the way, won't meet when I want blah blah blah. I prefer to train on my own and just get it done, unfortunatly I do not have time for any socializing aspect right now.

I hear the University Club rocks, and it is a sweet deal. If I lived closer I would join even if I could only make it 2-3 times a week.

Another option is to hit the running room, they have training runs all the time, good place to meet people.

If you need motivation and support BT is as good a place as any to find some. There are still some mentor groups that will accept new members, which is a great way to get some motivation and give and get some support.

Good luck!

Welcome Trevor.  Re finding it hard to train consistently at nights - how's your morning schedule?  I too have 2 kids (ages 7 and 9) so find it hard to be consistent at nights what with kids school work, after school activities, sports, etc.  For myself what seems to work is getting up at 5:00 a.m. to ride on the indoor trainer 3 days a week, swim at 6:00 a.m. two days a week and if my calf doesn't bother me then I try to fit in my runs a couple of days during the week and my longer runs on the weekends.  It's a true balancing act fitting it all in but it can be done.  Good luck with your training!

I get to the pool usually 3 mornings a week. I work early but Shouldice pool is open at 5:30 so that works so i can get in 30 mins or so. I do have a pretty flexible job, so I do get most of my workouts in during the weekdays as well....Run around Prince's island,World Health Club downtown, etc. Weekends, I do tend to get some free time most early mornings before the kids/wife are awake.I guess I am just looking to see if anyone else out there is around my level( Sprints with an Oly at end of season), with similar availability, etc that is looking to bike or run together occasionally.

I could be open for some Saturday morning rides/runs once the roads/pathways clear up.  My running is intermittent as I have had calf problems so have to come back really slow and back off if they tighten up too much.

Re Shouldice - they have the leak fixed?  Last week when I checked it was closed.
