Subject: Lyme Disease + Antibiotics + Training

So I have Lyme Disease. I have had it probably 7 weeks, and not realized it, going in to a clinic shortly to get antibiotics, how will they effect my training? I have RI70.3 is less than a month and Timberman in Augst.

Fore sure I have the big bullseye, I had even searched the internet for 'wierd stomach rashes' and 'round stomach rash' things like that and nothing looked like what I had. Today one of the lifeguards at the pool diagnosed it, along with a handful of others all said it was Lyme Disease, and they had seen it before or had it. In Chicago, we dont have these ticks.

I have been more fatigued as of late, but did not really think anything of it, I thought it was because of diet more than anything. My joint always sort of bother me, I am always sort of fatigued, I never get awesome and excellent sleep for long periods of time, because I am a single father and sacrifice sleep for training and daughter time.

My training has been fine lately. I think I know when I got it, I felt like I had the flu for a few days weeks ago. What do I need to know?

I don't have it, but I do know that it's important that you find a LLD (Lyme Literate Doctor) to get things under control.  From what I understand, lots of general physicians don't know very much about Lyme and how to treat it...so finding a doc that is well-educated in treating Lyme disease should be first and foremost on your list.  You might also find some useful information at www.healthboards.com on the Lyme Disease forum.  Somebody there may even be able to hook you up with a LLD in your area.  Good luck and I hope things turn out well for you!

No, what you mean is that you will find some people who believe in chronic Lyme disease vs. acute Lyme disease.  The former is a well documented LIMITED process that requires antibiotic therapy.  The latter is something that has never actually been shown to be a real disease, and most of the medical community rejects it as a diagnosis as such.  Finding "Lyme literate" doctors is ridiculous.  You're finding somebody who believes in a non-entity.

Having said that, what he has is ACUTE Lyme disease and requires no special doctor to treat.  The usual antibiotics used to treat it shouldn't cause much in the way of side effects for most people.

I had a ton of blood taken, waiting on most of the results to come back on Wednesday.
