Subject: Can I use a mountain bike?
Hi there,

I signed up for my very first triathlon this next month and because I'm very new to this don't have a lot of equipment.  For example I only have a mountain bike.  Do I need to have a certain type of bike for an event or can I use my bike.

Sorry for the dumb question.

Thanks,
Adi

Plenty of folks did their first triathlon on a mountain bike, including me.

As Bill said, pick up some cheap "slicks" (mountain bike tires without the knobbed tread on the tire) from your lobal bike store.  They are relatively easy to put on but in case you are somewhat put off by doing that, they will likely do it for you while you wait.

Pay attention how they do it because that is also how you would change out a tube if you got a flat.

Welcome to BT.

I used my mountain bike with thin slicks for the first three mini-sprints I did and no problemo!  You'd be surprised what you see people riding!  Good luck!
