Occasion? You mean like birthday? Christmas?

Or do you mean like when the bike becomes your limiter?

If you're achieving an "accomplishment" with the old bike, then why upgrade? Again, for me it more appropriate to upgrade when your equipment becomes the limiter. Many of us have a ways to go before that happens.

Of course, many of may be encouraged to train more if we have new equipment. That might be a reason to upgrade.

my appropriate accomplishment was convincing my wife I needed to invest in the right equipment to take me to my goals.

Since when does a triathlete need a reason to upgrade the bike?? seriously!! upgrade now, why wait?  go on......you're thinking about it so why not do it?  you know you want to!!  said the little red devil on the shoulder LOL

Heck, if you're slow, if you're fast, if you are a horrible cyclist or the best cyclist in the world...

IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY!!!

UPGRADE, GET A NEW BIKE, BUY THE BEST EQUIPMENT POSSIBLE AND MORE!

But DON'T FORGET TO TRAIN!

It does nothing in your garage except look expensive with dust.

Everyone will say, its about you, not the bike. A new bike, an upgrade, MIGHT not make you any faster or give you more endurance... But if you got a birthday coming, Christmas, extra money from graduation, whatever... Heck - buy a bike! If I had a couple of thousand I'd buy a brand new TriBike! But I don't so I train on what I got.

Thing to ask is - what is the best upgrade for a bike based on what you have? Crankset? Seat? Wheels? Pedals? Shoes?
