Hey Gang,

I'm prepping for the 106 mile Tour de Nantahala in late October. It climbs 12,000 vertical feet. I'll be logging lots of hours in the saddle in preparation and want to supplement with something other than Gatorade (has been bothering my stomach lately) and Gels.

I've been sampling these, but haven't been able to decide which way to go yet:

Amino Vital Pro
Hammer Perpetuem (long rides) and HEED (shorter rides)
FRS

Opinions?

I should note: the only thing that scares me a bit about Perpetuem is that the protein content comes from Soy protein. Lots of research to support that Soy isn't a great idea anymore, particularly for men.

I'd rather not load up on the simple sugars in Gatorade.

Gatorade used to anger my stomach, so I switched to HEED.  Now I can tolerate diluted G'ade, but I still prefer HEED - it's not too sweet.  Haven't tried the others on your list.

I'm a fan of HEED and GU20, as far as liquids go.  If I need anything more than that, I just carry some mini Clif bars, Clif Shot Bloks, or a few Fig Newtons.  I don't care for most gels.

This isn't on your list, but I like Nuun for electrolytes and real food for calories. Fig newtons, Clif bar, dried fruit in a bento box... etc.
