Subject: Advice on rest or taper before sprint in 2 weeks
I have a race on Labor day weekend (Sunday) and don't know exactly how much if any to ramp down my training for the race ?  While the race is a short sprint 1/2S, 10B, 4.5R) , it is a difficult one as it is very hilly on the bike and run.

My current training (see calender view) is consistent but not overly aggressive by any means.  I feel pretty stiff every mornings but get it worked out and feel good by the after noon which allows me to train after work.  The stiffness is mostly in and around my ham strings, just above my knees and calves with very slight shoulder stiffness, which is what I would expect from the training that I am currently doing.

So my question is, should I take a couple of days off before the race or simply scale back the amount of time I am spending training?  I really want to do well in this race as it was my first one ever last year at this same time.

Thanks

Yes, I would tak a day off prior to the race--either Fri or Sat.  If you take off Fri, I would just do some very short workouts on Sat with a few "pick-ups" in whichever sports you choose to do.  You may want to do a bit of that during the week as well.  Get your self ready for race pace turnover.

I'd recommend taking Friday or Saturday off before your race, and also reducing your run mileage by about a third since it looks like you've been building mileage this month.  I'd keep your biking and swimming about the same, though go easy on them if you have a workout programmed the Thursday or Friday before the race.

I was just going to post this same question this am.
My race is Sept 13 and I have gotten everything up to 2x race distance except the run, and I am feeling a little burnt out right now.

Err on the side of too little rather than too much is my motto.

Perhaps try a nice brick workout to mix things up, like a 1x bike followed by a 1/2x run.

I have always learned to decrease the duration, maintain the intensity for the last week before a sprint. I always take the day before off, or do a VERY light swim the day before (like 250 yards!) just to cool off and relax.
