At the richmond Tri in Oct, I am not sure how the swim will go because it is a seeded pool swim. Which means I could be one of the last to go! 450 meters takes me about 15 minutes or more. With 650 people expected, I could start hours after the rest.  I feel crappy in the pool until AFTER about 300 yards. No way to do that the way the race works. Any suggestions? I will warm-up, but it may be hard to accurately judge when I will start. It's my first and I am nervous enough about the swim!

do 400 meter time trials in practice, and seed yourself accurately.  if you are really worried about it, get in the pool swim warmup laps, then come back 2 hours later and do your time trial.  get used to that.  figure out what you need to do in that 2 hours to stay loose/calm your nerves.  i have a lot of fun just chatting with the folks around me before racing, usually.

oh, and see ya there

I have this issue to with the swim too. One thing I notice is that if my body is already warmed up from either a bike or a run then the swim is not an issue.  So perhaps while you're waiting go for an easy run that will raise you body temp up.

I had this concern for my first tri, it was a 400yd swim, and it often takes me 3-400yd to get comfortable during swim workouts!  What I did was spend a few pool sessions starting out already warmed up from a bike ride to the pool, then just jumping in and doing an immediate 400 at my 'race pace' (which is pretty slooow).  It helped just to get a feel of the effort, and to feel how my body reacted without a nice smooth warmup, and I think helped on race morning.
