Comments: Second woman out of the water overall! Had a GREAT race! What would you do differently?: Not a thing! ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Really shaky legs, hard to stay steady and get socks/shoes on without feeling like I'd face-plant! LOL! What would you do differently?: Just keep working on getting faster at it! ![]() Bike
Comments: Tried to keep it at an effort level of 8 (on a 0-10 scale) so I'd have some legs to run on. Had to rein myself in a few times and remind myself of just how much biking was left and that I still had 6 miles of running ahead of me. What would you do differently?: Get more confident in my cornering and turns so I don't have to slow down as much to feel safe making the turns. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Almost fell swinging my leg over the bike - bike it the ground but I did not..recovered and ran in fine. WOW were my legs stiff and tight. Chugged some water and took my endurolytes capsules...wish I would have not stopped to take a breather before heading out...I was only 26 seconds from earning a podium spot and could have made up a lot of that in this transition alone! What would you do differently?: Practice, practice, practice! ![]() Run
Comments: Tried to settle quickly into a pace and hold on for dear life! LOL! My calves were so tight in the first mile - it was NUTS! They finally chilled out and then I felt good to the turn around at mile 3. From mile 3-4 my quads were feeling like they would "charley horse"-up at any moment. Yikes! I just focused on my stride trying to keep it even and unwavering - I figured the more robotic I kept the strides the less chance I'd cramp...don't change anything, keep on moving. My pace did slow to about 9:00/mile in that mile and things slowly improved. Then I saw Kate (kzimer) from BT and it was so neat to "see" someone I knew!! Mile 4-5 is kind of a blur...there was a woman in my age group that was pushing me to keep at it - running next to me for almost the whole last 2 miles - UGH! When I passed mile 5 marker I tried to up my pace and finished the last mile at about 8:00/mile - felt like I might "die" but I just kept telling myself it would all be over soon enough - just push it...pump your arms and ignore your legs. I thought I mike puke at the finish with the volunteer was taking my timing chip off but that passed and I settled down pretty quickly. What would you do differently?: Nothing, really. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked, stretched, waded in the lake and then pigged out on some pizza!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. A relative lack of experience on the bike - slowing into turns and with cornering. 2. Legs more than cardio Last updated: 2010-01-10 12:00 AM

Up at 4:15am to start waking up and start hydrating. Final checks on my tri-gear and topped off the bike tires. My friend picked me up at 5am and we drove the 1.5ish hours to the race site. I drank 1/2 of my pre-race shake on the way there. When we got there I checked in, got body marked and found my rack spot in transition. Then we headed back to the car to sit and warm-up...it was in the 50's and I was freezing! Drank the rest of my shake at at 7am and ate my rice cake with almond butter.
Got out of the car at about 7:30, warmed up with a swim until 7:45 and then listened to pre-race meeting. After that it was time to head over to the start..YIPPEE!
