I just got the results from my first tri this season...and I don't know if I'm not reading them right or what..but this is what it says

s/b TR- 6:36 (note...closest girl in my AG was 36 seconds behind!)
Bike- 2:01 (second best in my AG by 30 sec but I really don't know if this is 2 min, 01 sec or 2 hrs 1 second...I WAS NOT OUT THERE FOR 2 Hrs on a 21 mile bike!)
TR/Run- 1:19.37 (is this a split at this time???
Finish- 43:38 (OMG! Slower than everyone else by 20 minutes...20 effing minutes...up until this time I was 2nd)

I ended up DFL in my age group. 2:11.52. So disapointing.

I think that I'm supposed to read this as Bike= transition to bike, and after the bike in the TR/Run is my time up until the run. Had I not been hyperglycemic and therefor dehydrated as hell at this point...I probably would have placed. But no, I sucked hardcore.

Swimg 6:36
T1 2:01 and that's minutes:seconds
Bike 1:19:37 hour:minutes:seconds
T2 probably included in run
Run 43:38

Think of it like this, you have a little bit more to think about/worry about in a race than other people. All you have to do is get you nutrition under control maybe do a few bricks and you'll be blowing by everyone in your age group. How many 20something year olds have to worry about diabetes. And the fact that you could have beaten them had you blood sugar levels (?) been right should make you proud. Go kick their butts next time! That means you should sign up for that race you've been thinking about.

First out of the swim.
Approx 16mph bike
And what time do you think you would have done the run if you had felt 100%. Add these times together and see how you want to do in the next race.

Good Luck and Happy Training!

By my own admission, I'm a piss poor runner. but I probably could have pulled off a 35 minute run in this one, considering I did 40:00 at my last tri this weekend where my blood sugar was under control + hills + off road. This run is flat, no hills.

DFL is better than DNF and they're both a million times better than DNS.

Usually it's me that's last.  I don't mind anymore, because I'm racing against myself.  I know I'm slow.  I think of it this way: so many people in triathlon come from some sort of sports background.  Many of my friends were avid cyclists, or high school crosscountry runners, or on their college swim team.  Me... I come from the couch.  I don't have that history of 10+ years of solid physical training.  So, being last against those people is acceptable because it's like comparing oranges to apples.

And I still know that I'm ahead of something like 95% of the population who can't even do what I do.  I know that when I'm on the run course and sucking wind and feeling like I'm going to die in the heat, and can barely hold a 12 minute pace (more like 15 in my last race), that I'm still ahead of all those people who are still in bed, waiting in line at McDonald's for breakfast, or heading to the mall...

Now, I also know that you don't want to hear that.    So, now you know what you need to work on for your next race.  Go get 'em!
