Total Time = 2h 45m 32s
Overall Rank = 49/151
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 7/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30am, ate 1/2 banana, 1/2 ClifBar, plain mini-bagel, Starbuck's Frappucino in a bottle.

I'd rained like holy hell at start time. Lightning, wind, the whole shabang. The start was delayed 1hr, but the race went on under very humid and hot conditions.
Event warmup:

I stretched for atleast 30min because my legs were very tight and very sore from the ride yesterday. The mid-Michigan wind can really take the sap out of one's legs on a long ride. I compare riding against the constant wind we have to climbing a never-ending hill.
Swim
  • 27m 13s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

There were four small buoys and everyone meandered in a wide group through the course. Kind of tough to spot.
What would you do differently?:

Swim straight
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I have no idea about T1 time, just ran up the hill and got on the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 12m
  • 25.32 miles
  • 21.10 mile/hr
Comments:

We had about a 10-12mph headwind while heading south or east- which was about 2/3 of the course. I just put my head down and emptied the tanks because there was no way I'd have anything for the run on my sore legs anyway, so why not grind away? Tim F chased me for about 15mi and I wouldn't let him catch me. We hit 27-30mph on several long stretches.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I had the 9th fastest bike split of the day.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

T2 took awhile because I had wet feet and my socks wouldn't go on.
Run
  • 1h 03m 36s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew from the moment I woke-up there would be no effective running today, so I did LOTS of walking and some shuffling. Every been to the gym on a Monday, do some power lifting on the upper body, and then on Tuesday when you try to pick-up a sack of groceries, it weighs 200lbs? That was the feeling I had in my legs, there was just no muscular stength in the calves or quads.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I planned to tank the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Food, and lots of it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My long ride yesterday.

Event comments:

The MSU Tri Team swept the awards, and yes, that measn "The Door" came home with us again. Time to repaint it and get some Beirut going.

Nice job.  Great bike split!  Especially with that wind - wow.

Have you ever been to a race that had a properly measured swim course??  Its an epidemic!  I feel like you just never know what your going to end up swimming when you show up in the morning.

Man, you've got stones.  I can't believe you went on a 75mile bike the day before an Oly.  That's the kind of insanity that I admire!

Nice race. I wish I had taken your approach on the bike seeing as how I bonked wicked bad on the run. Sweet with the bike, I didn't mind the wind so much, but the hills were plenty annoying.

The bike split was great...    so did Tim passed you on the run?  Did you keep him at bay during the run as well?    seems that you guys are getting a good rivalery going there huh?
