Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Girlfriend and I have planned a weeklong trip to the mountains in North Georgia towards the end of July. We will be renting a cabin in the area of Blue Ridge – Ellijay and will have a car as we will drive up from South Florida with our dog. We will be doing some hiking, some biking as I was able to locate a bike store than rents in Ellijay (finally some real mountains to ride and not manmade bridges), and a lot of reading. To those that have traveled to that area, are there any specific activities or place that you consider a most see or do while visiting? |

Just find a mountain bike whatever you do - maybe Dalton area bike shop (Bear Creek I believe) or Mulberry Gap might give you a line on rental shops in the area - and ride Pinhoti. I went there just to ride and didn't do much else but Dalton has some typical restaurants if you get hungry! We havent made the decision in regards to what cabin to rent, that should be done tonigth, but we do know that we we will be around the town of Blueridge and Ellijay. Besides that my knowledge of the area is pretty limited. The shop where i will be renting the road bike has mountain bike rentals, so i will definetely spend a day hitting the trails. |

To those that have traveled to that area, are there any specific activities or place that you consider a most see or do while visiting? We have a family cabin about 45 min northeast in NC. Been visiting it 2-3 times a year since I was 1 so that area is like a second home. There is a local bike shop in BR that can give you maps of the trails if the one in Ellijay doesn't have them. Lots of hiking around there as well. The Appalachian Trail is only about an hour east of you. Big parking lot where it crosses a major road. You can walk as much as you want. BrassTown Blad (highest point in GA) is about 40 mins east (on the way to the AT above). You can drive (or ride) up the road they used to use for the Tour of GA (insanely steep) and then hike up to the visitors center at the top. Spectacular views on a clear day. There is a HUGE apple orchard in Blue Ridge (can't recall the name but ask around) that is pretty interesting to visit. About 30 mins north is Young Harris, GA. They have a nice winery. About an hour North is the Nantahala river (whitewater rafting). It's a great river for your first white water trip. Rent a 2 man ducky and make a day of it. Speaking of Nantahala if you go to a grocery store find a package of Nantahala Sausage (a ground breakfast sausage). One of the best things to come out of a pig ever. It's divine. |

Thanks a lot, those are great ideas......Certainly plan in visiting the wineries in the area, and who can say no to a good breakfast sausage. |
