I'm remembering and honoring this veteran, 'Bigfuzzydad', my dad.  Here's a picture of him onboard ship in the Pacific in 1944.  Sorry for the poor quality, but the picture is 68 years old.  It's been 18 years since this Marine died and I miss him so much.  Thanks for your service pop!!!

Semper Fi!

I can see where you get your spirit from. (Also from your Mom with her YentaNet and all).

I hope you don't mind my commemorating my favorite Marine: our very own John Wright (jdwright). He too has passed away and I still miss him terribly.

My dad fought against (and in a strange twist of fate later alongside) U.S. servicemen in World War II. He had nothing but the highest praise for them. He was also briefly in a U.S. internment camp in Southeast Asia and said he was tremendously well treated. The American soldiers gave him chocolate, and when he was released, one of them gave him a small Army knife. He loved it.

My dad is no longer with us, but a couple days before I started at the Naval Academy, I visited Washington D.C. with him and some of his Vietnam buddies.  To see the reaction from those guys, finding friends' names on the memorial wall... was heartwrenching and moving.  There's a painting that I always think of:

Edit: all the respect in the world to Doug's dad.  No hijack intended!

Miss you brother.  You are with me always.
