Subject: 2010 Cervelo P3 or 2012 Cervelo P2

Hi guys just lookin for some advice.

I was looking to purchase a 2012/2013 Cervelo P2 at a local bike store and the price is set at 2800. Oddly there was a 2010 Cervelo P3 for 2500.

Is there a lot of improvement from P3 to P2? Is there a large improvement in the bodies for 2010 P3 vs the 2012 P2?

Honestly the biggest real difference is the head tube length, the P3 allows you to get lower in the front and is marginally lighter. If you are new to riding a time trial bike you may end up with a huge spacer stack on a P3. What's the component spec on the two bikes?

Unless you're getting a 51, the stack and reach are very different. The P3 is a much more stretched out bike. I have a 2012 P2, it's a great bike and you should be able to get a discount on one now that 2013 is here.

For most people, only one will be a good fit... either the P2 with the taller head tube will work well, or the P3 with the very short head tube will work well... More importantly, do you know that Cervelo will work for you? You're looking to spend a fair bit of money (and I guess it's to get faster, not for the looks), so why not do it right and get a bike fit FIRST and then buy the best fitting bike for YOU?

hey guys I really appreciate the advice you guys are inputting

@simpsonbo - The bikes come with Ultegra, beyond the name I am not sure what makes components better than another. I am very new to this area of bikes.

@audiojan - I do not know if a Cervelo will work for me perse. I am simply going by what a couple people in other states have told me they use. Hence I was looking for something from that brand. I've had a fitting perse to size 48. Beyond that, the bike shop says that I should pick a bike and then they can make adjustments to the rest...if that makes any sense. aside from adjusting bars, I dont know what else would need to be done. what type of bike do you suggest?

Size 48cm what? Cervelo? And if so, P2 or P3? Size denomination has no real meaning unless you also know exactly what brand and model... there's no standard what a size denomination means nor how measurements are taken.

Yes, you can adjust a bike to a certain degree, but the further you need to move to the extremes (i.e. shorten the reach/elongate the reach, or reduce the stack/heighten the stack), the more of a compromise you will be forced to live with. Think about it this way, do you the bike to fit YOU (i.e. bike fit FIRST and then buy the right bike), or do YOU want to fit the BIKE (i.e. making the bike work).
