Subject: HED Tri-Spoke Front 700c ClincherI have an older H3 front clincher tri spoke for sale. I bought the wheel used, and have raced on it for four years. I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but suspect it's an older vintage from the late 90's. If you hold it at the right angle and the light hits just right, you can see the outline of the original Specialized decals that were on the wheel. I stumbled across a new set of tri-spokes, or I'd still be racing on this one. The H3 design is pretty bomb-proof and lasts for years and years. The braking surface on this wheel is worn (radial grooves), and there are a few very minor nicks in the clear-coat. If I were keeping it forever, I'd also plan on changing out the bearings, but that's a very simple process on this wheel. New bearings are in the $30-$40 range. I've never been too worried about the breaking surface.....I do almost all my riding in Texas so its not like I'm riding the brakes a lot or have any mountains or technical descents to contend with. I'd label the overall condition as "fair", but I also think the wheel has a lot of life left in it. Put this wheel on the front and a wheel cover on back and you'll have a race wheel set-up is a set-up that's hard to beat, all for a very low cost. It may not be the fastest combo for any particular yaw angle or set of conditions but it'll be close to the fastest over the entire range. Shoot me a PM if you're interested, and I'll e-mail you pictures. Since it's in "fair" condition, I'll let it go for $250, including shipping. That's just the wheel....no tire, tube, or skewer. |
