Checked over 10+ websites and everyone of them were within $5 of each other.

I usually book directly with the airline...but I also usually fly the same route and know who flies it direct.

I too have been using Southwest more often. The airport in Chicago is closer to my mom's AND 2 free checked bags AND if you book online, you can rebook without any fees...you basically just get the amount of the airfare as credit. Plus, I get the Southwest fare sale e-mails and have gotten some good deals. (But my days can be flexible, like I can fly on a Tues, Wed or Thurs.)

I'm a travel agent, so I get this question often.  Check them all with someone like Travelocity or Orbitz, then book directly with the airline's website for the best fare and service in case a change is needed or problem arises.  Also, know that airlines such as Southwest, Frontier and others may not show up on some of those sights.

Of course, I would recommend using a travel agent to do all of the work for you for a small fee

My go to is to hit Travelocity first, then as was mentioned check the airline directly based on best travelocity pricing.  Then I compare to Southwest and go with the cheapest.
