Does anyone have any kind of insurance for their bike?

Home owners would cover the bike getting stolen from home, but what about covering the bike if you get hit by a car while on the bike. Is this normally covered under the other person's insurance?

I really didn't care too much when I had my other bike, but now that I have a nice bike, I don't know if I need to add some type of extra policy on to my car or home owners policy.

When I had a home owners insurance policy, I had to purchase a rider on my insurance for my bike as my base policy didn't cover bikes up to the amount it was worth.

If I get hit by a car while on my bike, the driver's car insurance covers it.

I asked my brother in law (my insurance agent) this very question on Sunday. He told me, if I'm hit by another car, that person's insurance would cover me as if I were in a car. If that person was uninsured or underinsured then my car insurance would step in as if I were in a car. If the damage/ injuries are costly enough my insurance would go after the person's insurance or personally for the damage. If my bike is stolen from my house or damaged from fire etc. I need a police report and my home owner's insurance would cover it. I would contact your insurance company and find out for sure though
