Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My A race (or the race I am training for) is the CapTex Tri Olympic distance (Memorial Day). My first race is the Athens Sprint distance (March 10). I have chosen the 16 week Olympic 2x to use to train for my first season. My question is this: How do I adjust my training in between races and what do I do with the taper that is at the end of the training plan I have chosen, if my A race is not until Memorial Day? Do I just keep stacking using the 10% rule or is there a point in which it will be detremental to continue to stack? How do I maintain my levels so that I perform my best on my A race?
Thanks any and all advice is appreciated. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There are 10 weeks between the two races, which is a pretty long time, so you have a few options: - You could could use the Sprint 16 week 2x plan to train for the Sprint in March, then use the last 10 weeks of your current plan to take you to the Olympic. - Keep your plan for the Sprint in March as it is, then do the last 10 weeks of it again, but introduce more intensity and efficiency work. For now I'd focus on the sprint in March, keeping in mind what works for you in training and what doesn't. On race day you're going to find out what your strengths and weaknesses really are on the race course and what you'll need to focus on for the Oly. Take a few days of recovery time after that race and then using what you've learned from training for and then racing the Sprint, choose the plan that will work best for you and use the last 10 weeks of it.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() marmadaddy, first of all, thanks for your response your advice is much appreciated. I have more races planned for the upcoming season, and I appologize I should have clarified that in the original post here is what I have planned to get me through. Sat. March 10 - Athens Sprint Triathlon Saturday, April 21, 2007 ::: Irving, Texas: Playtri Triathlon Festival Sunday, May 06, 2007 ::: Benbrook (DFW Metroplex), Texas: Tri-Benbrook Triathlon Sunday, June 10, 2007 ::: Grand Prairie, Texas: 12th Annual Metroplex Sprint Triathlon I realize there are some gaps in there . I am working on that as well as the full schedules have not been released for 2007 as of yet, and I may be going to Arizona in support of my friend Brad competing in IMAZ. My goal is to try and and compete twice a month maintaining my focus on CapTex on Memorial Day, if all works out well. These are my tentative goals I should clarify. Time, family commitments, financial constraints, etc...may not allow all of this to take place; but I would be very pleased if I could make it work next season. I am also looking for suggestion to fill my race schedule, but that is a different thread altogether. Again thanks for any and all responses. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That's quite a schedule! I'd say it looks pretty full as it is. 8 triathlons in 7 months is a lot of racing. Still, the same ideas would apply. You can't plan to peak for every race obviously, but 2 or 3 in a year is certainly possible. Given this, you could peak for the Athens Sprint, then Cap Tex Oly, then the Longhorn Sprint. The other races would be lower priority so depending on how close they are to A races you could either do a short taper for them, or just treat them as high intensity training days for your A races.

So using that schedule you would still suggest that I use the sprint training plan to taper for Athens and then adopt a training plan to carry me through to CapTex. That makes sense. I can make that work. I don't plan on peaking for every race, that was my friends suggestion that I train for Olympic and use the Sprints as high intensity training days connected to my training. That is where my original question came about as far as picking a training plan of proper length. On a side note I shared this schedule some friends of mine competing in IMAZ and they think I am being a little aggressive as well. They think I should eliminate at least one of my races before my A race, preferably the Early May race and focus on my training for CapTex. That would give me about 5 weeks to focus just on CapTex and some extra cash to take with me to the Longhorn Festival. What is your opinion on that? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oops, late replying sorry. That sounds good. You can include the sprint 5 weeks out into your higher volume period and then begin a peak/race period |
