Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 09m 46s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 26s / 100 meters
Comments:

Long run from water to swim exit, long run up boat ramp across parking lot across street through another parking lot to T1
What would you do differently?:

Look back coming into shore, got wiped out by crashing wave.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

good T1. Tired from running a frickin 5K to T1
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 30m 47s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike although slower than last year. It was my first time racing Clydesdale. Starting in the last wave of men was different. On my first loop of the bike I looked at the men behind me and realized for the first time that everybody behind me is someone I was beating. A lot of pressure, but good pressure.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I felt like I was moving pretty good, but my time dosen't reflect it. If anything I think I would do shorter practice rides at a faster pace than my slow long rides.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Good T2 one of the volunteers said "wow that is a fast transition!"
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 42s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Usually I know that by the time the run starts the winners of my age group have already finished. This time I knew there were a lot of people still on the course and I should be right behind the leader. I started out a little tight and I wanted to go into my casual run pace, but kept thinking about the people behind me.
What would you do differently?:

Stay mentally focused the whole run.
Post race
Warm down:

walked to pizza booth. walked back to run course to cheer in DHyte.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Big Fat Belly

Event comments:

I was watching the legs of people checking out the age group of the people passing me. I didn't see any clydes passing me until the very end. I thought I would finish in the top 7-8. I saw the standings and I was 11th out of 11. I was a little bummed because I didn't know how many Clydes there were. It was a weird feeling for me because I was a little slower than last year and I thought I wouldn't be last in my AG, but I felt this was my best race up to this point. I wanted to be happy because it was a good race but it was weird being last in my AG. When I got back to my bike I was talking to some guys who were doing their first tri in borrowed bikes and that was cool but again I thought I finished after them. After talking to them I realized they finished after me and that the standings weren't updated yet. I am still feeling weird about this race because I usually am just happy participating in races and this one I was actually racing in it. I am still a little ashamed of being bummed about thinking I was last in my AG even though it was a good race.

Tom, I can understand the torn feelings.

That being said, what a great bike time! Your times look great. I know you wanted to finish sub 1hr., but you are definitely on your way!

Congrats,

Dana

No kidding, what a great bike time! Isn't it funny that even when we claim zero ego involvement, we have some? I'd like to think that it is the motivation to just keep training. Still, I'd kill for your bike times. Okay, my last name isn't Hacking, but seriously think about it for a nanosecond.
