Well, I have been hanging around the site for 8 months or so, posted a few race reports and read a bunch of articles, posts, rr's and the like.

I feel it is time to actually join the community.  This place seems like an awesome support community, very supportive and a place to potentially meet some awesome athletes.

My name is Keith and I am 42 years old.  I recently relocated from Rochester, NY to Cary, NC.  I was getting into the idea of trying a triathlon up north, but the relocation got in my way.  I am now settled in down here in the south, and I am back back to training.

Running has always been my weakness, so I am concentrating on that the most this winter after biking all summer.  I am an ex-high school swimmer, so I know I can pick that back up easily.

My runnning is improving, and I can now run without injuring myself every other time out.  I have done a few 10K's and have an 8 mile run scheduled for this evening.

I am working up a running and tri schedule for 2007, which definitely includes the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon in February.  My 2007 long term goal is to finish the Duke Liver Center Half Ironman in September 2007.

I will be evaluating myself during this year to see if I think I can possibly enter and finish IMFL in 2008.  Reading Runnergirl's race report from IMFL 2006 and some other IM race reports has given me the desire to challenge myself and to eventually become an IronMan.

Regards and good luck to all of you in meeting your own personal challenges.  I will look forward to receiving support from all of you as I try to reach mine.

Keith

Well hello, Keith!   Welcome to the forums side of BT.

I have found a lot of great running discussions going on here.  Everything from chi-running to the pose method, from tempos to LSDs, and it's all good fodder for discussion.  Like you, I'm trying to step up my running game, take it beyond the 13.1 and maybe go for an Ironman in '08.  I have another HIM in mind for 2007 first,  and you have your first HIM in Sept of the new year...very nice.

Good luck on all of it, and don't be a stranger.  The forums really do add a lot to the BT.com experience, so enjoy!

I recently purchased the ChiRunning book and have been working on my form.  this is critical for me, because I have alot of force go through my older than typical knees running with 220 lbs striking the ground repeatedly.

I haven't fully gotten into it, but the basic concepts have helped immensely.  I can run without hurting my calf, achilles tendon or knee.

I did run 8.25 miles today in the rain.  Held up pretty well.  this was 2 miles longer than my previous long run of 6.25.

Welcome to BT "officially". I spent over 13 years in Charlotte (NC) and Cary is a pretty area of the state. Like you, I struggle with the running part of triathlon. Staying injury-free is key even if it is at the expense of a faster time.

I have heard good things about Chi Running so good luck. You have great goals for 2007 and I wish you all the best! Keep us posted with how you do!

I like this area very much.  I miss Rochester, but at least I moved to another nice place, with much better weather.  I am really enjoying running outside in December with shorts and a short sleeve shirt.

After watching the Kona World Championships, I got a whole lot more inspired about that IM target in 2008.

It is so inspiring to watch, not the professionals, but the everyday people, and those with disabilities, those who are 30 years older than me, I could go on and on.

Feel free to drop by my blog and drop a little mojo on me if you get a chance.  I am committing to a monumental 2 year goal.

Keith
