Sunny
Total Time = 1h 37m 48s
Overall Rank = 93/674
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 12/78
Pre-race routine:

Got up two hours early, had two packets of oatmeal, banana and cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Ran about a 3/4 mile, stretched, got my stuff set up in transition
Swim
  • 10m 29s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim went o.k. Swam in high school and college so it comes fairly easy even though I don't really train. Had more trouble then ever staying straight. Had to adjust my course at least 3 times. Thought I was in for a long day with how the swim seemed to be going
What would you do differently?:

Not much really, started in the front, didn't have any trouble with the pack.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Went fairly fast, timing company didn't list the transition times
Bike
  • 52m 38s
  • 18 miles
  • 20.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Biking is my worst by far, just tried to maintain a good speed and keep my heartrate in a comfortable zone and leave some energy for the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

no time listed
What would you do differently?:

probably could have picked up the pace, but that could have slowed down the run as well, so who knows
Run
  • 34m 40s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

started with just a comfortable pace. Ran 7min mile the first mile. wanted to just keep a comfortable pace so as not to bonk at the end. At about 3 miles decided to try and turn up the wick and finished as strong as I could.
What would you do differently?:

probably could have run a little faster.
Post race
Warm down:

walked to my car

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not much really

Event comments:

Seemed to be one of those races that everything seemed to click. Began to recognize this at the end of my bike and into the run so I made sure I took some time to enjoy it. Because we all ot into this for the fun of it!

For not swimming much you went fast...real fast. Wish I could do that. You must've been top 5 overall? I'm hoping to go a 1:20 pace (or better) next season.

Heck, you went damn fast in all the disciplines.

Huh. Must've been a locally run race, as I've didn't know anything about it (live in Kalamazoo). Hope to see you on the Michigan circuit next season. Many michigan people on this forum.

Yeah its a race that been run for over twenty years. Very well run and lots of space for spectators. You should do it next year! I heard, although not officially, that the swim was at least 100 yards short so that time is misleading.

Are u doing more tris this season or are u finished? Which ones did u do and would you recomment them?

My season ended a month ago. I'm now crosstraining. I'm running the Detroit Marathon along with getting ready for the Masters Swimming - first meet is at WMU in a few weeks.

I did tri's in Kalamazoo, Hadley Twshp (north of Detroit), Waterloo and St. Joes/Benton Harbor - which was a half ironman.

All of them were well run and fun with the exception of Hadley.

Most tri's in Michigan are put on by either cooltri.com or 3Dsports (I think that's right, but could be wrong).

Keep training and posting over the winter..it would be cool to get a bunch of us together for a tri (or two) next year.
