received a $50 patagonia gift card for my bday and i am totally at a loss as to what to get. i was thinking about getting a lightweight houdini rain jacket for rainy day runs. i've had a lot of those lately and my regular rain jackets don't breath as much as i would like while running and my other lightweight jackets are cycling wind-breakers neither of which has a hood. then again, i already have FOUR jackets! also, it will be snowing soon and maybe i should get another fleece vest (i have 2 now) or jacket (i have several, but only one that is cut well for running/skiing/snowshoeing). OR maybe there is something that would be really handy for doing a tri that i'm not noticing. OR maybe i should just get something casual to wear, like a skirt or something. i'm probably going to have to pitch in above the $50, which is fine. any ideas?

How about a nice Capilene v-neck T for under the vests you already have. I know I go through a lot of t-shirts. The outerwear is still pretty good. As we get colder weather than you, layering is needed. But a good cotton T is always good to have in the wardrobe. OR>> pass on the gift card. I'll make use of it !!! LOL ;-)

i don't think so! i can find something, its just that i love all their stuff and its hard to decide on ONE thing. and you're right, it is colder up there. i grew up in duluth and i'm STILL getting used to it being 10 degrees warmer down south in the cities

Do you have a really really good pair of winter sports tights? I am always frustrated by having to layer tights in the winter because the nice ones cost too much (gift certificate would be handy!). Layered up, I can't move properly, and running in any other types of pants make me feel like I am wearing diapers. Good tights would make running, cycling, skiing, skating, bending over to tend to cute little girls etc.etc very comfortable!

That's just my 2 cents about winter workouts. The rain jacket also sounds cool. Good luck!

i have 3 or 4 pair of windproof winter tights since i used to bike commute in the winter. really, if i had to inventory my sports related clothing, i have a little bit of everything! one of the reasons it was hard to decide.

i finally ordered something this morning! BRAS! not very exciting, i know, but they will get lots of use! i have one of these already, and i'm always searching through the clean laundry for it. it is perfect for biking, yoga, hiking, camping, just in general a darn good bra that also works fine with breastfeeding. keeps the girls happy and in place -and now i'll have three of them! plus, they were on sale. the other things i thought about were not but may be at the end of the season. if we have a little money after xmas and they are on sale, i may get an axowool pull over, a vest, and a houdini jacket. but for now, bras! hurrah!

i actually have two pairs of patagonia wind proof winter tights that have been awesome. i would highly recommend them. i've also had lowe alpine and rei brand tights that i didn't like as much (although all of those brands have changed their tights in the last few years, so they are probably different from the ones i have anyway). windstopper is awesome and keeps you warm with very little added bulk.
